Introduction
The GAV is committed to protecting the privacy of its registered users and visitors to its websites, and views the protection of personal data as being of fundamental importance to the operation of its business. Personal information about registered users is held securely and is treated with the utmost care. The personal information is only visible to the registered user and to the GAV, and – in part – to it’s members. In the registration form the extend of the visibility is mentioned below every registration field.

Information about unregistered or logged out visitors are only stored anonymously in website statistics (PLESK-STAT), and cannot be related to individual visitors. However, they can be related to IP-addresses (see separate paragraph below).

Processing personal data of registered users
Data is captured by the GAV in the course of providing our services. Your personal details are stored in your profile (see My account in the menu) when you register yourself as user of the GAV website. The personal information is restricted to the information you provided and can be changed and deleted by you.

The GAV uses this information to provide services to registered users (members), taking the form of privileges and permissions at the GAV website. If you do not want to receive these services, you can unregister yourself. The GAV uses this information also to inform registered users of developments in insurance medicine, congresses and seminars and services provided by the GAV. This is also done by way of Newsletters. If you do not wish to receive these Newsletters, you can unsubscribe at any time.

List of members
The full name, E-mail adress, photograph, BIG-registration number, and data of the company / employer are shown in the list of members. This list is only visible to other members. All other data are only visible to the GAV for administrative purposes.

Third parties
The personal information will never be passed to third parties.

Unsubscribing
the GAV takes your preferences into account as much as possible in the provision of services and information. the GAV allows you to specify these yourself through your own account. If you do not wish to receive Newsletters, you can unsubscribe at any time through your own account. If you do not want to receive any services or do not want your personal data to be stored, you can unregister yourself.

Viewing and correcting your personal information
You are entitled to view the personal information the GAV holds on you at any time. If any information is incorrect, you can change the information yourself through your account.

Browsing history and IP address
General information on visits to the GAV website is captured and stored without visitors being identified. The purpose of this is to improve the quality of the website and users’ browsing experience. This information can also be used to put targeted information on the site. This allows the GAV to tailor its services to you. The GAV also uses your computer’s IP address for this purpose. The IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer when you browse the internet. This information can also be used to see how the website is being used and for analysis and reporting purposes. In principle, IP addresses are not linked to information that would identify you, unless you have given your explicit permission for this.

Use of cookies by the GAV
A cookie is a small amount of data (a small file) sent to your computer by a website. The website tells the web browser you are using (e.g. Internet Explorer) to store these cookies on your computer. There are two types of cookies. Session cookies are deleted from your computer when you close your web browser. Persistent cookies remain stored on your computer even after your web browser is closed. The GAV uses only session cookies. Persistent cookies are not used by the GAV.
The GAV uses cookies to make navigating the website easier, to analyse the use of the website and so improve the quality of the website.

Refusing cookies
You can refuse cookies by adjusting your browser settings (e.g. Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) to disable all or certain cookies (see your web browser manual or help function). If you disable cookies, some services may not be available to you.
